Classify Trade Area Marker

 

Classification of the trade area analysis will be thematically represented on the map and in a legend for all the sites that are in current map view.  Site point data can also be visually represent based on a distributed breakdown.

Define Classification Settings

  1. Click Trade Area Settings tab

  2. Select  Classify Marker check box.  

  3. Click Classify Site Marker Settings.  The Classification Settings popup window displays.

  4. Select year check box(es).  Selection of years hides and reveals indicators displayed in the corresponding databases.

  5. Select data type, either counts and/or percentage check box. Selection of data type hides and reveals  corresponding indicators.

  6. Under Indicator, click plus.gif to  expand American Marketscape DataStream, Consumer Spending Dynamix, User Defined or corresponding  database.

  7. Click the plus (+) next to the  g.png to expand Groups.  Continue to expand Groups until individual indicators display. Please refer to the GIS Reference Guide, for a list of all indicators or use the Search feature to locate desired information. Various symbols display next to indicators :

  8.  Select Indicator.

  9. Click Apply.  Classification Settings window closes.

  10. Selected and indicator name appears next to Classification Indicator.

  1. Click Update Map.

 

To modify Color Schemes, Distribution Method and or Number of Ranges:

  1. Click Classify Site Marker Settings.  The Classification Settings popup window displays.

  2. Click image62.gif to display thematic options.

  3. To modify classification colors:

    1. Beneath the Classification Color Scheme heading click one of the 9 colors you want to change.  This brings up the color palette pop-up window.

    2. Select the color you want to use.  Repeat steps for each custom color selection.

    3. Click   image13.gif to close the color palette window.

    4. Click Close.

 

OR choose from one of the predefined color palettes by:

    1. Click image55.gif to choose from one of the 7 predefined thematic color schemes.

    2. Click a color palette to use for your thematic map.

    3. Click image13.gif to close the color suggestions window.

  1. Select desired options and click Apply.

Disable Classification

To revert back to the standard site marker:

  1. Click Trade Area Settings tab
  2. Uncheck Classify  Marker check box

 

OR

  1. Click image56.gifnext to the indicator name displayed.

Site Classification Filter

 

By creating a query for the selected Classification Indicator you're able to visually represent and identify sites who's trade area meet a specified criteria.

 

  1. First define your classification settings.

  2. Click Classify Site Marker Filter.

  3. From the list of Site Classification Filter Indicators,  select indicator, and click Use Tree Indicator in Query.   Manually entering the indicator name, although allowed, is not advisable due to possible typographical errors. IMPORTANT - Only the listed indicator may be included in query. Site data may also be included in query as the only or  additional parameters.

  4. Click the desired operator.  Operator is added to the query editor. The following operators can be used by clicking any one of them following an Indicator to perform a query:

·   Equal (=)

·   Greater Than (>)

·   Less Than (<)

·   Not Equal (<>)

·   Greater Than or Equal To (>=)

·   Less Than or Equal To (<=)

·   Parenthesis

·   Between

·   AND, NOT and OR

 

Example shows Hispanic Population %(2013) > 45%     (this will identify sites who's Hispanic Population makes up more than  45% of the Total Population for the  defined trade area)

  1. Place cursor in query editor and enter desired value.

  2. Click Apply

  3. Click Update Map

  4. Site marker will be colorized for those sites that match query criteria. image126.jpg

  5. To display on the map only those sites that match the filter criteria on the Trade Area Settings tab, in the Site Classification Options, select Hide Unclassified Markers check box

  6. To view and export to Microsoft Excel the sites that match query defined, in the  submenu click image15.jpg  and then select Site Query Report.  System displays a new  pop-up  window or tab showing the data in a grid form where you can sort it online or download to Excel for further adjustments or printing.
